Along with keeping homes clean I’m an AMAZING cook…Haha true fact!…Just maybe don’t ask my family!

Yesterday I was at a dear friends house and I noticed a big No, No…Washing the Turkey or Chicken before cooking it.

A lot of people do it, but you should never wash chicken or turkey. All the mess of splashed water could be full of harmful salmonella bacteria, spreading it around the kitchen could spread a bacteria that can get into other foods and cause you more harm then good.

Cooking the Chicken or Turkey should just do the trick.  If the meat looks dirty, don’t eat it!

If your getting the Chicken or Turkey from a butcher they have regulatory codes they need to follow to ensure your meat is safe.

While most my friends have switched over to foil pans for Thanksgiving Turkey, I like to preserve the environment with my mamas good old fashion Roasting Pans past on from generation to generation.  Let me give you some tips that can help you with clean up.

Cleaning a Roasting pan is never easy, I recommend getting a roasting rack.  The rack lays across the pan and keeps the Turkey a good distance from the bottom of the pan.  A roasting rack not only protects the Turkey from over cooking, it also drips the fat, etc with out creating the burning that you get from having the Turkey directly in the pan! Now, I’m not asking you to spend a ton of money, you can go to the Kitchen Conservatory and get a rack today for about $8.95 Roasting Rack

NOW if you are reading this AFTER the the big meal…I’m sorry:( You should of bought a roasting rack!:) BUT…I have a soultion:

If your roasting pan is covered in burnt Turkey or food of ANY kind, toss some (Green) washing powder, add some boiling water and keep boiling on the stove for 10-15 minutes. Stir a bit while its boiling, and I promise you…PRESTO…The Burnt on mess will flake and clean right off.
